Owen at Ten Weeks Old

As of Friday, Owen is ten weeks old.  I found myself with a little free time today to take some pictures of him. He was in a great mood after sleeping 9 hours last night.

First, I took some pictures of him in his play gym:

Smiley boy
After playing for awhile and then eating, he took a nap so I took some pictures of that as well.

He is resting on a new burp cloth that I finally finished for him today.

I took a few more pictures of him after bath time:

And ready for bed in his PJs:

He continues to improve on his head-raising skills and tolerating tummy time.  You can also see in this picture that he does not have that much hair left these days.

Vintage Style

Sometimes hand-me-downs are not so bad.  We did a little photo shoot tonight in some of the great dresses that have been passed down through the family for Rachel to wear (at least long enough for a picture).

First up is a beautiful crochet dress made in 1947 for Aunt Diane by Florence Buckner, Rachel's great-great-grandmother.

Next we went forward in time to the 1970s in another crochet dress made for me by Rachel's great-grandmother, Elfreda Catrina Hughes.

(note this is not a mug shot - it is just what you get when you ask Rachel to stand against the wall with her feet together and hands at her side)

Finally, Rachel modeled a calico dress with smocking made around 1970 by Aunt Gladys Fisher.  Lamby wanted to pose for this one as well.

Owen has his own outfit to show off.  He tried on the outfit that Wes wore when he was christened and looked great in it.  Clearly, he was pretty happy for the photo shoot.

Tante YaYa Comes to Town

Last weekend, Tante YaYa (Angela) spent some time wth us on her way to Austin.  We had a  great time as usual.

Rachel loves to get presents and her Tante did not disappoint.  She brought fun German books for Rachel and Owen.  Rachel also likes to unpack bags so that was an extra bonus.

Aren't they cute?

Rachel serenaded Tante YaYa on her harmonica from Opa.

Tante YaYa demostrated for Owen how tummy time is done.

Of course, we went to the pool.  Owen was disappointed he still does not get to swim.

Rachel, on the other hand, showed off her stick-my-face-in-the-water skills

Guess who is two months old!!!

On Angela's last night in town, we went out to dinner at one of our favorite places.  Who doesn't love BYOB?  Rachel brought her apple sauce in her little purse, so for her it was BYOA.

Owen thought that if he were just a bit bigger and not strapped in his car seat, he could totally knock over daddy's glass.

It's fun to play at the YMCA!

Earlier this month, we joined the Y with a citywide membership.  We have enjoyed taking Rachel to the indoor pool at the downtown Y as well as the family pool at another location.  The family pool may become our Saturday morning tradition - we have already been 3 times.  That girl loves to swim!

Really she just loves water in general - the shower is big fun too.

Owen is not up to swimming yet but he does enjoy relaxing by the pool in his swim trunks.

What happened to July?

It has been 3 weeks since my last post.  The time has flown by while life around here just continues as usual.

Owen continues to grow, as you might expect.  He is a very sweet baby.

Rachel is active as usual.  She likes to do things with her mommy, like yoga on the Wii.

Owen loves to play with his toys.  He usually prefers to be on his back so he can kick things.

He is getting better at tummy time and does not mind it most of the time.

Owen also likes to smile, but it is hard to catch him doing it.  He is shy.

This is Owen at 7 weeks.

Looking a bit bigger just about a week later.

Rachel was very proud of the crown she made (with some help).

Everyone loves to hold little Owen.

Here is a relatively rare picture of the two of them together.  The matching yellow shirts were just a coincidence.

Despite the heat, we headed to the park a few weekends ago to watch Wes and Steve play some tennis.

It was hot and we forgot Rachel's hat so she got to wear mine.  She did not mind that it was a bit big.

The best part was going for snoballs after the park.

Oma and Opa Visit

Here is Owen at 5 weeks old (we were slightly delayed in getting this posted)

Oma and Opa came to visit us for the Fourth of July weekend.  We had a nice time relaxing around the house most of the time as it was very hot outside.

Oma did not mind spending time indoors with Owen and Rachel.

Owen was happy to get to spend some more time playing.

Rachel enjoyed the books that she chose when we went to the library after a trip to the park.

Owen even got in some tummy time practice.  He still does not particularly like it, but will tolerate it for a few minutes at a time.

Owen hit a couple of big milestones over the weekend - he started smiling at us and cooing.  Here is he smiling at Oma.

Big boy at six weeks!

One of the most fun parts of the weekend was dancing with Rachel.  She has so much energy and loves to dance!
We also enjoyed some nice meals over the weekend.  Here we all are (minus Wes with Owen on the floor between me and Rachel) enjoying our steak dinner.

Opa loves to spend time with his newest grandbaby.

Rachel playing some music for us after church on Sunday.

Rachel and Oma

Oma diligently bouncing Owen so that he would stay asleep.

Yummy peach for snack.

Rachel helped Wes cook dinner for us one night.

Owen spent even more time playing on the floor.

At the park, Rachel helped Oma take Owen for a walk.

Rachel was excited to be at the splash pad again.

The newest playground in our area was finished this weekend so we checked it out.  It was a lot of fun.  They had a rock wall so Rachel tried out her climbing skills.
