Artsy Weekend

In our continuing effort to enjoy as much as possible of what the nation's fourth largest city has to offer, we hit some museums this weekend.

The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (that's a real thing evidently) has a monthly hands-on activity.  Rachel did a great job making a braided key chain.  We are looking forward to what they will have next month.

Henry relaxed in the little stroller during the activity.

We took a look around the center when we were done.  Rachel chooses interesting picture poses sometimes.

They had a 3-D printer in action so we also got to watch that for awhile.  A certain 2-year old had some trouble controlling himself so he got to head to the car early.

Some more contemporary craft examples.

We went to the Museum of Fine Arts after that for lunch.  Henry and I enjoyed a short guided walk on the some of the Greek and Roman items in the exhibit.  It was fun.

When we were there on Saturday, we discovered that the first Sunday of the month is family day at the museum.  So, we went back again for lunch today.

They had fun craft activities.

And lemonade!  (Also, they gave out free little LED lights that you can sort of see in Owen's hand)

They also had paper and pencils that you could take around the museum.  The idea was the find a picture that you like and try to copy it.  Initially, Rachel just enjoyed drawing whatever she felt like.  We looked around and took breaks in a few of the rooms while she worked.  I would note a certain non-museum loving 2-year old had to once again be escorted from the building.

Finally, we found some art that Rachel wanted to copy.  She liked the stripes so she made a striped square of her own.  She did a great job of sitting and working quietly.  We will definitely be back next month - Rachel was already asking to go again next week.

Zoo Again

Yep - we really like the zoo.  They stay open late on Fridays during the summer so we took advantage of the slightly cooler temperatures and went Friday evening.

Everyone looked excited on the way in!

They had a few games for the kids to play.

The giraffe was eating the grass right by the fence!  The kids were not impressed.

They were too busy running to the new splash area.  It was crowded but still fun.

After that, they were happy to check out the giraffes.

Henry had to ride with all the stuff.  No running around for him yet.

Owen found a flower.

The next exhibit in the African forest will be the gorillas.  It looks like it will be nice when it finally opens in 2015.

Rachel finally figured out how to get her face in the mask without needing a boost.

Owen tried but could not quite make it.

He is getting so big!  Looking a little less crazy with his new haircut.

Checking out the komodo dragon.

Henry was waking up from a little nap.

Of course, the piranha tunnel.

The Last Sunday in July

Last Sunday, there was a little festival at Discovery Green downtown.  It is great to live in the city where it is so convenient to check out a wide variety of things.

The festival itself turned out to not be all that exciting.

They had a few games and activities for the kids.

After that, we ran (literally) off to have more fun at Discovery Green.

Quick stop to admire the art car golf cart.

Then...splash time!

Or nap time, as the case may be.

So refreshing.

After that, we went to Phoenicia for lunch.

It was a fun outing!

At home, Henry enjoyed some time in his exersaucer.

Funny faces.

Rachel likes to steal my kindle.

Rachel, Lamby and Henry's arm.

Owen got a haircut as well (not self-inflicted).  This is right after nap...it usually looks better than this.

Some More July Kid Pictures

Curly Sue making a silly face.

We asked Rachel to take some pictures in her dress after church.  She said she wanted to do some on her bike, some sillies and some "nicies".  Here are some of the results.

Very dramatic

A nicie

Not sure if this was meant to be silly or nicie

She was proud of this silly one.

Owen in his church clothes.

Fun play times.

Henry can roll over!

He also loves to play on his play mat and grasp toys.

He is tolerating tummy time much better these days as well.

I tried to take some cute pictures in his bed with his little elephant.

He was not that into it.

At least he still likes to fall asleep on his mommy.
