Annette's Reading List

I am putting this page up here in hopes that it will encourage me to stay up to date and find new and interesting things to learn and read. [updated August 2]

Currently Reading...At Home by Bill Bryson (it is really long!)

On Deck...Nothing right now.  I have several holds at the library so I will see what comes in first.  Still open to suggestions!

Recently Finished:

  • How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character by Paul Tough - Although this is mainly focused on bridging the achievement gap for low-income children, it had a lot of studies about what leads to success in later life that are really applicable to children of all socio-economic groups.

  • The Narnia Code by Michael Ward

  • Almost Amish by Nancy Sleeth

  • Drift by Rachel Maddow - I thought this book was really interesting.  Clearly, Rachel comes with a specific point of view on what our military should be doing which comes across in the writing.  However, how she lays out the history of how the political activities around our military have shifted over time is thought provoking.

  • An Innocent Client by Scott Pratt - For fiction, I really like James Patterson books.  Unfortunately, none of them were available for my Kindle either in the Prime lending library or the regular library (read: for free).  So, I found a highly rated new author in the same genre.  I have to say, the book was not great but not terrible either.  I might try the second one in the series.
