Zoo Again

Yep - we really like the zoo.  They stay open late on Fridays during the summer so we took advantage of the slightly cooler temperatures and went Friday evening.

Everyone looked excited on the way in!

They had a few games for the kids to play.

The giraffe was eating the grass right by the fence!  The kids were not impressed.

They were too busy running to the new splash area.  It was crowded but still fun.

After that, they were happy to check out the giraffes.

Henry had to ride with all the stuff.  No running around for him yet.

Owen found a flower.

The next exhibit in the African forest will be the gorillas.  It looks like it will be nice when it finally opens in 2015.

Rachel finally figured out how to get her face in the mask without needing a boost.

Owen tried but could not quite make it.

He is getting so big!  Looking a little less crazy with his new haircut.

Checking out the komodo dragon.

Henry was waking up from a little nap.

Of course, the piranha tunnel.

Legos at the Zoo

There is a billboard close to our house proclaiming the Lego animal exhibit this summer at the zoo.  So, of course we had to go.

Our "triple" stroller

Rachel LOVED the Lego animals.  We actually went through the exhibit twice on this visit and will probably be going again before it ends in September.

Posing by the zebra, one of her current favorite animals.

Lots of pink

A little progression for you.  First, Rachel and Owen are nicely playing with the animal sound exhibit.

Then, Rachel plays the bobcat.  Owen is uncertain.

Rachel plays the bobcat again and Owen retreats to his mommy.

Happy Henry during our snack break

Such a sweetie pie

I think this giraffe is stealing the zebra's food.  They put food up high for the giraffes.

By the new cheetah exhibit.

More Legos!

Also, some real flamingos.

Rachel and Owen both love the clown fish.

Rachel's 4th Birthday!

We had a great time earlier this month when Tante YaYa was able to celebrate with us.  She was in the state after a visit to Austin (more on that in another post).

Henry loves to relax with his tante.

Trip to Karbach with beer and healthy snacks for the kids.

Henry took a nap.

Rachel helped me decorate her birthday cake.

It was beautiful weather so we ventured out for at trip to the zoo.

Owen has gotten a lot more engaged with all there is to do.

Rachel loves to climb on things.

Silly girl with YaYa.

Silly girl on the drums (that she climbed up on)

It is hard to see, but this is the first time we have gotten to see the chimps having a snack in their special feeding area.  They were using sticks to get some tasty treats while we watched.

Our best effort at a family portrait.  In an unsurprising turn, Henry slept through it.

Ready for the birthday celebration!

Rachel had a princess theme so everyone got to wear tiara birthday hats.  Henry was a trooper and did not complain about it.

Castle bithday cake.

Looks like everyone but Rachel is excited about the celebration.  She was ready to light the candles.

Now she is excited!

It took a few tries but she got all of the candles out without any help.

Owen accepted the party hat as long as he had cake.

Even Daddy got to wear a hat.  Henry is looking slightly less excited about it here.

Rachel got a lot of fun gifts and cards. Thank you to everyone!
